Birds 04:03
the birds show no sympathy for my current state chirping so stupidly at dawn's stupid break six in the morning but i've just got in tired and as drunk as i've ever been but their chirping so merrily does not stand a chance when one's passing out on the bed forgetting momentarily the night's circumstance that i'll be starkly remembering when the hangover ends she said that she loved me and gave me a kiss i feebly protested but could not resist she claimed to be miserable so we kissed some more her boyfriend could hear it all through the crack in the door i hastened my exit so as to avoid the drama that would surely ensue i knew what'd come next, it would not bring much joy to all those involved when it comes time to choose can we blame it on the alcohol laugh and quickly move on and act like it never occurred? so that things go back to normal by the next break of dawn when the only distractions come from those stupid birds

the slow malaise of these dull summer days will undoubtedly catch up with us we waste gasoline searching for a local scene that unfortunately's not worth the fuss the money's all gone, it was such a pleasant run now the 9-to-5 workday awaits but there's still time to dream and come up with new schemes to keep that god-awful real world at bay you would think that we'd learn as we crash and we burn for the one thousandth time we don't mind, we just . . . years ago when our laziness showed we could always fall back on our youth but that was before, we're not young anymore so we need to find a new excuse you would think that we'd learn as we crash and we burn we weren't made to succeed but we're free, so let's . . . the day will arrive when we're scrapping to survive unsure as to what the future will bring but we'll fondly recall our magnificent fall and we will not regret anything

so long to the punk revival towards the setting sun Peaches and her new arrivals has them on the run she has them on the run city life of used car dealers four-wheel drive mistakes free drinks for the lonely dreamers to sleep it all away sleep it all away pardon me if i seem lost tell me just where our signals crossed we'll leave all that behind a muted high school resurrection leaves them all in tears there's beauty in our desperation far beyond our years far beyond our years and i don't know why we can't get this right the city won't love us tonight we'll spend the day inside

So here we are again A couch in the house you rent A black Pomeranian Happily licks my hand A meeting long overdue Another drunk rendezvous We’re both trying to be good As you slip off your shoes The cold creeps in through the door I’m keeping your toes warm I could do so much more But tonight it’s not in store Now there’s a boyfriend in the picture And this time he’ll be the victor I will acquiesce to him tonight There’ll be no guarantees next time There’s nothing on TV One hand moves from your feet Slowly up to your knee Stays there reluctantly Cos there’s a boyfriend in the picture And this time he’ll be the victor I will acquiesce to him tonight I’ll make no guarantees for next time Eight months since we met last Is too long spent on different paths Why must we be resigned to Passing out in separate rooms Cos there’s a boyfriend in the picture And this time there’ll be no victor I will acquiesce to him tonight Who know when there’ll be a next time Crashed out on your futon A black Pomeranian Greets me as morning comes I pet her and soon I’m gone I pet her and soon I’m gone

80 Proof 06:02
well of course, you can stay the night you've clearly had too much to drive as always, my place is yours of this, you can be assured it comes as no real surprise the things you tell me through half-opened eyes a tinge of sadness and uncertainty a new vulnerability we've been through all this before an innocent night turning into something more and the space between you and your fiancé grows further and further each day the past has proved that we’re no saints so we'll try our best to show some restraint cos first and foremost we are friends the rest is irrelevant so tell me all that's on your mind the good, the bad, the nice, and not-so-kind oh, it's alright, who am i to judge you after all that you're going through? there's no need to be afraid cos these societal mores tell us it’s ok to say oh, what you want to say without being ashamed without fearing any blame as long as there remains a little vodka in your brain a little vodka in your brain it's ok if you tell the truth as long as you're still 80 proof so, go on and tell the truth as long as you're 80 proof oh, i guess i'm sorry to hear you say you're having second thoughts about your fiancé well, i'd love to help you but i'm afraid i must excuse myself from opining in this matter cos i've no doubt my bias would clearly show i want to say exactly what i mean, but we both know it's best to stay quiet although i must admit i prefer the former option to the latter and i know that you know why oh, i'm sure that you know why it's in the prolonged looks you give me every now and then it's in the less-than-subtle signals you send the way you recount your woes as you pull me close no, the words don't need to be said this is not how 'just friends' say goodnight when the hug lasts too long and you're squeezing me too tight when did the goodbye kiss switch from cheek to lips? when did the couch turn to the bed? but who cares about 'when' or 'why'? and i think that you know why and i'm sure that you know why and, of course, you can stay the night

you can be the sweetheart of the ball or not show up at all cuz no one will recall in six weeks time you can be dropped from the hipster charts for changing your hair's part it'll make no difference as you'll soon find that the aim to please should not be a concern there's always one more lesson to be learned there are some days where i just wait to die before finding peace of mind within the corners of a lover's smile and even the stars have tales to tell before they die as well and scatter uncast wishes for miles and miles i'd love to join the party before it ends but i'm stuck in my nature once again

Tell Me 02:57
If you’ve ever any doubt Whether we can make this work out Tell me Cuz I don’t want to waste your time On a slow loveless decline So please tell me There’s nothing here to indicate Any type of sudden change I’m just used to things ending around this point I don’t know any other way If you’ve ever any doubt Whether we can make this work out Tell me Cuz I don’t want to waste your time Or misread any signs So please tell me There’s nothing here to make a case For any type of sudden change I’m just used to things ending around this point Maybe I am just afraid To lose the best part of my days If you’ve ever any doubt Whether we can make this work out Tell me Cuz I don’t want to waste your time Or be a drag of any kind So please tell me

Perks 02:17
you were on top of me i was somewhere else altogether you were doing all the right things i was nowhere to be found it's the end of the affair it went on too long anyway the aftermath is there strewn all over your place you know it could be worse you could have dumped me first i'll miss the perks but that's about it yeah, i'll miss the perks but that's about it a bruise on my shoulder and a bite mark on my arm the damage is tolerable and the night is still young

Something is on fire I can see it from the bridge But I ain’t got time to drive towards Where the fire is Fighting off the stresses I can feel are bubbling up Tori said the pills work fine I’ll find out soon enough Drive along the river And the scraps of industry A cold metallic wasteland that serves To block the scenery Past the public golf course There’s a girl on the ninth hole Who swings an iron lazily With pigtails like Nicole With the windows down And the music turned up loud I sing along and tap my fingers on the steering wheel When the drive is through All the usuals resume All too real Out towards the art college And the rows of unsold lofts The foolish gentrified ideal That comes at any cost A Spanish phrase covers the side Of a Bimbo truck A rough translation yields these words: “Always With Love” No direction, nothing new Just wandering about An aimless lunchbreak drive ‘round town I feel much better now

Grizzly Bear and Kurosawa After hours spent re-connecting A farmer’s market som tum salad Lit by candles and the glow of Dreams Is this the way things could have been Had circumstance not intervened And kept us far apart for so long? Getting high on a futon Reviving inside jokes over wine Getting close, ready to move on To making up for amorous lost time Is this the way things could have been Had circumstance not intervened And kept us far apart for so long? Are these the acts that we have missed These simple nights – this simple bliss This feeling that has always been so strong? I still can not believe I’m here After all this time and all these years Thought I’d lost all hope to be back with you Some scribbled lines from long ago Just wishfully thought – how would I know That after all this time those words would come true
